I am currently undertaking research in climate physics and e-science
and am the climateprediction.net
chief scientist. I am a research fellow in the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research,
based in the Environmental Change Institute at Oxford University.
I am also a visiting research fellow in the Centre for the
Analysis of Time Series (CATS) at the London School of Economics and will be taking up a
position as Associate Professor at Exeter University in August 2007.
I have a particular interest in research in the following areas:
-
Distributed computing for large scale modelling research.
-
Uncertainty analysis in climate forecasting.
-
Public involvement in climate and environmental research.
-
E-science techniques for data access and analysis.
-
Uncertainty analysis in regional climate modelling and forecasting.
-
Seasonal forecasting of climate on the 3-12 month timescales.
Previous fields of work in which I maintain an interest include:
-
Renewable energy systems; particularly methods of encouraging the development
of renewable energy sources as large scale energy producers in both western
and developing countries
-
Paramaterization of gravity waves in GCMs and the forces which drive the
QBO (Quasi Biennial Oscillation).
